Abstract :
An experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of La2O3addition on magnetic and physical properties of anisotropic Pb ferrite magnets. It was found that La2O3addition to Pb ferrite is very useful in stabilizing the magnetoplumbite structure and that these Pb-La ferrites have excellent properties as a permanent magnet. Compositions were chosen according to the formula (PbO.n Fe2O3)100-x(La2O3)x, where x was varied between 0 and 4.0, and n between 4.5 and 6.25. The optimum conditions of making magnets and some properties of a typical sample are the following: composition (PbO . 6Fe2O3)97(La2O3)3, semisintering condition 1250°C × 1 h in O2gas, sintering condition 1275°C × 0.5 h in O2gas. Magnetic properties: 4\\pi J_{10k} = 4250 G, 4\\pi J_{r}= 4100 G, H_{CJ} = 1850 Oe, H_{CB} = 1800 Oe, (BH)_{\\max } = 3.6 MG . Oe, \\sigma _{s} = 63.6 emu/g (at 25°C), T_{c} = 443\\deg C, K_{A} = 3.28 \\times 10^{6} erg/cm3, H_{A} = 19.6 kOe.
