Abstract :
A theory is developed to explain the behavior of planar arrays of microstrip dipoles. Relations are obtained involving the active input impedances of individual dipoles (thus recognizing the effects of mutual coupling) and the radiating currents in the dipoles resulting from a set of impressed voltages. These relations permit the establishment of a design procedure with the goals of an input impedance match and a desired radiation pattern.
