Abstract
A least absolute value (LAV) state estimator which can handle both equality and inequality constraints on measurements, is developed. It is shown that the use of equality constraints will actually reduce the number of simplex iterations and thus the overall CPU time. The constraints can be used to enhance the reliability of the state estimator without affecting its computational efficiency. The estimation program developed is tested using 14-through 1000-bus power systems
