Abstract :
An eddy-current testing technique is reported that was used to detect defects in the flat Rutherford-type cable of the HERA (Hadron Electron Ring Accelerator) dipole magnets. Test results are presented that show the technique was able to find such defects as broken wires due to mechanical overload during cabling and rolling processes, and cross overs due to cold-weld.
