Abstract
Co-Cr metallic thin film media depositted on flexible organic film have been studied in perpendicular magnetic recording. Wear dependence of the Co-Cr thin film media on head running condition is one of the important problems for practical application. The wear of the media has been influenced by many factors or conditions between media and head interface. In this paper, the wear properties of the Co-Cr media under the condition of head running was discussed experimentally, and it was found that the wear is strongly depended on velocity between head and medium. In other words, the wear is improved rapidly over a critical head velocity because of air flow between head and medium.
