Abstract :
The steady-state performance of round rotor electronically commutated motors driven by a voltage source inverter is investigated. The solution is given for both 120° and 180° modes of inverter operation, with provisions to select the advance firing angle. In the case of discontinuous operation, the commutation angle is calculated and constitutes one of the outputs of the program rather than an input. All equations necessary to determine the steady-state solution are given explicitly in terms of machine parameters, ready for computer implementation. This direct simulation technique provides a convenient and economical means of readily evaluating the effects of system parameters and modes of operation upon the performance of this class of electronically commutated motors
