Abstract
An inductive thin film head with 12 windings, a gap length of .5 μm and a track width of 50 μm is presented in this paper. Design is shown to be possible with simple models and mathematical calculations. The head was fabricated by thin film technology. The read/write characteristics were examined and it was proved that the head is well suited for analogue and digital recording. On a flexible disk more than 2000 fc/mm were achieved, i.e. area storage densities comparable with those of modern commercial hard disk systems are possible.
