Abstract :
The influence of the bias level and the nonlinear gain on the achievable minimum output pulse width due to laser chirping is considered. Using Gaussian input pulses a bias level of about 30% of the optical pulse amplitude yields a two-fold to three-fold increase in the possible bit rate than without bias level.
