Abstract
Interpretation as an implementation technique of high-level languages on microprocessors has several advantages, such as an increased interactivity, high portability and extendability. However, it is slow compared to native code execution. In the letter we describe the rationale for, as well as a case study of, a language coprocessor supporting the interpretive execution of high-level languages, in particular Modula-2 programs.
