Abstract :
The magneto-optical effect of DC-magnetron sputtered Tb(Pr,Nd)Co alloys has been studied. Both Pr and Nd were found to contribute more to the magneto-optical effect than Tb in rare earth-transition metal alloys. A small amount of Pr substitution for Co in PrTbCo alloys can increase the magneto-optical effect at room temperature by 1/3, while the Nd substitution does not produce such an enhancement. The magneto-optical effect and uniaxial perpendicular anisotropy decrease rapidly as the Pr content is increased further.
