Abstract :
The stability of optical fibre connectors with spherically convex-polished ferrule ends is discussed analytically and experimentally. It is clarified that Fresnel reflections at the gap between the butted fibre ends are reduced by applying axial compressive force sufficient to deform the ferrule ends.
