  • Abstract
This paper successfully applies the theory of spline functions to the FEM and use the B-spline function as base function, thus assuring the continuity of the field vectors along the boundary of the elements and bringing a much higher accuracy to the solution. Composite media problem is also dealt with in this paper by using the theory of multiple nodes of the B-spline functions. In addition, this method noticeably reduces the computer storage capacity required and the computing time. Two examples having closed form analytical solutions are given as illustrations.
