Abstract :
The performance of a thin film flexible disk for longitudinal recording has been studied. The disks of a CoNiCr magnetic layer on a Cr sublayer were prepared by the economical process of evaporation. The influence of the layer thicknesses on the magnetic behaviour is reported. Excellent electromagnetic results with recording densities up to 62 kfci were measured. With a sputtered carbon top coat an acceptable lifetime, of one day on one track, was reached. The head - to - medium interface and its influence on the lifetime were investigated.
