Abstract
Hierarchical finite elements are used to solve some simple 2D and axisymmetric test problems. The features of hierarchic elements are compared with those of standard elements, with particular regard to solution using pre-conditioned conjugate gradient techniques and possible uses in self adaptive schemes.
