Abstract :
The letter presents a theoretical and experimental study of the noise characteristics of a 1.5 μm InGaAsP travelling-wave laser amplifier. The noise figure representing the signal-spontaneous beat noise level measures 5.2 dB, which is the smallest value thus far reported. The spontaneous spontaneous beat noise increases with the square of the signal gain.
