Abstract :
When complete information is not available or when exhaustive evaluation of all alternatives becomes time consuming and expensive, ways must be found to estimate the intermediate cases adequately from known boundary conditions. The method of inconsistent data analysis (IDA), present in this work, is such a technique; it can be used to estimate the parameters for a scenario when boundary conditions for related scenarios are known. The IDA technique is used to estimate the coal requirements for an electric utility under various generation expansion scenarios. The results obtained are compared with those from the describing functions (DF) and high-order linear interpolation (HOLI) techniques used for estimating alternatives. Results obtained by using the IDA technique are found to be equally accurate, but more robust
