Abstract :
A magnetic bearing system combining radial control and thrust control is discussed. The structure proposed in this paper is useful for the simplification of the five axes controlled magnetic bearing. It is, however, more difficult to design the suspension control system. At first, the modeling of the controlled system is made in the form of the state equation. Then, an integral type control system is designed based on the modern control theory, in which the optimization method for a Linear-Quadratic performance index or the In-the-Region Pole Allocation method are used. An experimental machine is produced, the electronic control system is set up, and several experiments are made successfully.
