Abstract
For oblique evaporated Co0.72 Ni0.28 films, it was found that not only Hcp increased, but also Hcv increased with θ beyond large angles. This is related to the large anisotropy associated with crystallite texture which was confirmed by the SEM micrographs. As θ was increased beyond 60 degrees, the easy axis turned from the direction transversal to the incident plane and went upwards out of the film plane. Thus, films prepared under large θ angles possess a certain amount of vertical remanence Mrv and maintain excellent longitudinal Mrp and Sp simultaneously, this will benefit the overall output and the recording density giving a higher limit than when only the longitudinal component is used.
