Abstract
A 3-D split-step finite-element method is used for the numerical investigation of optical switching in two-core nonlinear active directional couplers made of high concentration erbium doped silica waveguides. It is shown that optical switching at 1532 nm can be controlled by changing the input pump power at 980 nm
