Abstract :
An adaptive equaliser for polarisation mode dispersion (PMD) is developed, and its performance is evaluated in a 10 Gbit/s transmission system. This equaliser suppresses the power penalty due to PMD from 6.9 to 1.0 dB for a PMD value up to 65.7 ps. This result suggests the possibility of PMD compensation in multigigabit, 10000 km transmission systems
