Abstract
Circular bends with low excess bend loss (¿ l dB) and radii of a few millimetres were fabricated using GaAs/AlGaAs single-heterostructure rib waveguides with propagation loss ¿ 1 dB/cm. The effect of rib geometry and roughness due to bend pattern quantisation on the excess bend loss at 1.52/¿i was investigated.
