Abstract :
The scintillation properties of LaF3 single crystals doped with Nd3+ were studied by means of X-ray excitation. The Nd concentration ranged from 0.001 to 12 mol.%. The luminescence caused by 4f-4f transitions in Nd3+ shows a maximum intensity at concentrations near 1 mol.%. A 5d-4f transition yields an emission band at 173 nm with a decay time of about 6 ns. The intensity of this emission was studied as a function of the Nd concentration. It appears that the intensity increases with the Nd concentration
