Abstract
The Consumer Electronics Bus Standard (CEBus) specifies a CSMA (carrier sense multiple access) based protocol for the MAC (medium access control)-layer protocol. The author presents a simulation system for performance analysis of the protocol. The simulation demonstrates that the CEBus protocol guarantees bounded delay solely for frames of the highest priority. A protocol modification is proposed to bound delay for lower priority frames. Simulations show that the maximum frame delays for lower priority frames under the modified protocol are significantly reduced
