Abstract
The capabilities of today´s microprocessors are examined. Both RISC (reduced-instruction-set computer) and CISC (complex-instruction-set computer) designs are covered. Superscalar operation, on-chip caches, and branch instructions are discussed. The possibility of multiprocessor chips is discussed, as well as chips soon to be offered.<>
