  • Abstract
The criteria of bandwidth and gain are of prime importance for high rate wireless systems. The electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) antenna, which could be a good candidate for microwave and millimetre link systems, is regarded as a promising solution to achieve a directive antenna with high gain but limited to a narrow band. Presented is a solution to increase the above performances using a three-dimensional antenna structure associating EBG materials technology and that of the metallic waveguide one. The calculated and measured performances of the optimised antenna at 38.9 GHz confirms an improvement of bandwidth (from 150 MHz to 1 GHz) and efficiency (from 20 to 47 ).
