Abstract
The Power Industry Computer Applications (PICA) conference returned to Phoenix after 30 years, with both the 1963 and 1993 conferences showcasing advancements in computer technology and their application in the electric power industry. This article describes a special plenary session, "Thirty Years of Power Industry Computer Applications" which provided an excellent perspective on the 1960\´s pioneering efforts in digital applications. The session brought together the 1963 technical chair and four 1963 authors who presented what were then exciting new developments. The session was intended as a light-and-lively accounting of personal, professional experiences, reflecting the state of affairs 30 years ago.<>
