Abstract :
A high performance multiple wavelength laser transmitter which operates at four wavelengths spaced by 4 nm around 1550 nm is reported. Electrical drive and WDM optics are included in a package measuring just 50*30*15 mm3. Output power into the singlemode fibre is +5 dBm peak (-1 dBm per laser) and the wavelengths are all within +or-0.3 nm of target. The ECL-level compatible modulation and laser bias circuitry has been demonstrated to operate to at least 2.5 Gbit/s.
