Abstract :
Mutual coupling effects in a large array cause a variation in the input impedance as a function of scan angle. This variation can be reduced considerably by the use of a compensating structure which appropriately modifies the environment of the array. A two-dimensional dipole array is treated as a typical example, and its input impedance is calculated by means of a unit cell equivalent network as a function of scan angle for different environmental situations. Reasonably constant performance up to scan angles of \\pm 60\\deg is obtained on use of a periodic baffle compensation structure.
