Abstract :
The design of an overmoded cavity backed helical array by using the FD-TD (finite difference-time domain) method is described. A resonant cavity designed to operate in the TE770 mode is used to couple power to a 16 element helical array. To reduce the computational requirements several approximations are used to characterise the helix in the 3D modelling domain.
