Abstract
Factors to consider when choosing between workstations and supercomputers are identified. Applications and computers are categorized, and speed requirements as a driving force in computer development are examined. It is shown how to analyze an application to determine the type of system that can best solve the problem, and the types of problem for which workstations are best are discussed.<>
