Abstract
The purpose of this work was to study the effect of different quenching rates from 900°C on the magnetic properties of liquid-phase sintered Co5 Sm magnets. Various fluids with different thermal conductivities were used to achieve different cooling rates. Interpretations of this behavior were warranted in terms of the microstructures and chemical compositions of the samples examined. The results of this work indicate that the magnetic properties of Co5 Sm magnets are strongly dependent on the particular cooling rate used to come from 900°C to room temperature.
