Abstract :
This paper describes the submarine optical telecommunication system being developed by Standard Telephones and Cables (STC), Greenwich, London, England. It gives the major parameters, discusses the reasons for the choice of key components, and outlines the progress made so far on their development to submarine standards of reliability.
