  • Abstract
    The loss budget of a 12.5 GHz-spaced wide-area carrier-distributed wavelength division multiplexed passive optical networks (WDM-PON) using an semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) modulator is reported. Based on a loss budget estimation approach that takes the excess spectral broadening caused by SOA modulation into consideration, it is shown that achievable loss budget is more than 26 dB over a 45 nm wavelength range at a bit rate of 1.25 Gbit/s.
