    The nine articles in this special issue focus on network-aware multimedia processing and communication. The first set of four articles addresses network-aware multimedia processing solutions for distributed coding, peer-to-peer video streaming, scalable video streaming, and cross-modality transcoding. The next set of five papers addresses network-aware multimedia communications solutions for resource allocation, congestion control, and error control.
