Abstract :
A Fortran program for computing the position coordinates of a geostationary satellite is described. The program, which runs on a PC-XT, requires as input data the six standard orbital elements at a specified epoch. The perturbations to the satellite orbit due to solar and lunar attractions, the nonspherical part of the Earth´s gravitational potential, and solar radiation pressure are considered. The approach is to treat the satellite orbit as a Keplerian ellipse but with time-varying orbital parameters. Extensive comparisons are made between computations and the data of INSAT broadcast at the National Physical Laboratory in New Delhi, India (NPL)
