Abstract
Although fiberization of the subscriber loop some time in the near future appears not to be an unrealistic expectation, institutional problems may for some time hold back its implementation in Canada. As a strategy to maintain a competence in subscriber loop technology, attention is being focused on the development of a fiber optic network that can meet the demands arising from intelligent building services.
