Abstract :
The recording performance of low-noise CoNiCr disks fabricated with polished glass substrates has been studied. It was found that the media have high coercivity squareness and high signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs), while high coercivity squareness media are typically noisy because of their strong magnetic couplings. They were advantageous for high linear density recording due to their high SNRs, good writeabilities, and small peakshifts. The experimental results demonstrated good agreement with a simulation using a simple self-consistent model
