Abstract
In 1943, the American Institute of Electrical Engineers (AIEE) selected Vannevar Bush the recipient of the Edison Medal. He was honored for his role in "the development of new applications of mathematics to engineering problems, and for his eminent service to the nation in guiding the war research program." He spent most of his professional career as an electrical engineering educator and administrator and was a leader in the development of electromechanical computers. His active role in organizing and directing large-scale research and development projects during World War II made him one of the most influential electrical engineers of the twentieth century.
