Abstract :
The design of programmable air bearing sliders is described. Simulation results are presented to show how the height of the front and the rear can be tuned for specific properties. The flying height of the rear is shown to be velocity dependent only because of a dependency of the front. Reducing the taper length to lower the fly height of the slider front is shown to be a simple method to lower this dependence on velocity
