Abstract :
A type of low-noise thin film head has been developed for wide band high-definition (HD) VCR. The head has nearly 0.1% of the yoke volume of conventional metal-in-gap (MIG) heads and a nonmagnetic substrate. The head inductance has been reduced with conservation of the reproducing efficiency. As a result, the head has about 4 dB higher C/√L and 2 to 4 dB higher carrier to noise ratio than those of MIG heads at 25 MHz and 23.2 m/s. The high C/√L ratio is caused not only by minimization of the yoke, but also by the effect of the magnetic anisotropy
