Abstract
A newly developed tape was wound into a pancake coil and its characteristics were investigated. The V3Ga tape, containing many fine filaments with a diameter of about 0.1 mu m, is 0.185 mm in thickness and 5 mm in width. The surface of the tape was electroplated with copper for stabilization. The coil consists of 14 double-pancake modules and has a bore diameter of 50 mm. The coil was tested in a Nb-Ti bias field magnet having a bore diameter of 145 mm, and generated a magnetic field of 14.4 T at a coil current of 190 A and in a bias field of 9.9 T. Other characteristics such as sweep-rate dependences, flux-jump phenomena, hysteresis, and remnant field are reported.
