Abstract
Fabrication techniques and mechanical property characterizations are presented for a laminated-composite plate for the CIT (Compact Ignition Tokamak) toroidal field (TF) coil. The significant reinforcement which is provided by plates on either side of a central copper plate is shown by both finite-element analyses and in experimental data obtained in compression at room temperature. Applications to magnet structures are discussed along with their influence on the design of a testing program to adequately characterize the mechanical response of this structural composite.
