Abstract :
Computer simulations of particle trajectories during the formation of indications in magnetic particle inspection are reported. Particle densities as a function of distance from a semielliptical defect are found to be in good qualitative agreement with experiment. The model shows that optimum contrast is given for inks with carrier viscosities equivalent to those of paraffins and light hydrocarbons at room temperatures.
