Abstract
8 times 10 Gbit/s optical packets buffered in a dual loop optical buffer (DLOB) is experimentally demonstrated. The crosstalk and unbalanced power among different wavelengths which is the main restraining factors of the buffering time can be solved by power equalisation by using a semiconductor optical amplifier. The buffered data packets can be retrieved after they are buffered for five cycles within the DLOB corresponding to 6.25 mus delay. The power penalty, the extinction ratio, and the signal-to-noise ratio are 3.6 dB, 3.98 dB and 5.47 dB, respectively. The eye diagrams for eight wavelength signals are obtained. The obtained results can be of great help in implementing simultaneous multiwavelength packets buffering through the DLOB.
