Abstract
The effect of the bias level on the transient mode partition in lasers is analyzed. The analysis is based on photon statistics. For any given mode selectivity, the required bias level above which no transient mode partition is expected can be calculated. A main-to-side-mode power ratio of 41.4 at the bias level can be used as a simple guideline to avoid transient mode partition.
