Abstract :
A wide range of methods has been proposed to define a major event. The most recent approach is designated as the Beta Method and was developed by the IEEE Working Group on System Design. This letter illustrates some of the shortcomings associated with the Beta Method and particularly the assumption that the daily performance index of an electric power utility can automatically be assumed to be log-normally distributed
