Abstract :
The Gauteng Provincial Government of South Africa has signed a $3.3 billion design-build contract with the Bombela Consortium for the 50-mile Rapid Rail Link. The contract calls for the line to be built in two phases. Phase One, which have five stations, start at the Johannesburg International Airport, run northwest to Marlboro and split to go north to Midrand and south to Sandton. Phase Two extend the line for an additional three stations north to Pretoria Station and Hatfield and two stations south to Park Station in the Johannesburg Central Business District. About 17.5% of the line will be underground, including the southern end in Johannesburg and the airport station.
