Abstract :
Some basic and new interframe and intraframe processing methods for improving the NTSC image are proposed and analyzed. It is shown that the NTSC system can be improved considerably through the use of comb filter techniques. These techniques, based on the use of line, field, and frame store units, take full advantage of the latest component and circuit technologies and allow the development of complex filter arrangements whose transfer functions adapt conveniently to the video signal characteristics. The transfer functions in the vertical temporal domain of some frame/line and field comb filters are discussed in connection with improving the quality of NTSC system images. The field comb filter is shown to constitute the best choice because it offers reasonably good resolution, evenly distributed over the frequency plane considered
