Abstract
New software graphics and mathematical packages that are bringing superior power to engineering applications are discussed. The most successful of these programs are aimed at broad technical and educational markets, and their usefulness to an engineer is linked, in part, to the extensive applications software that comes bundled with them. Using these programs, an engineer may model electric or mechanical systems, filter data, solve differential equations, evaluate integrals, or complete a host of other mathematical tasks. A number of packages are described
