Abstract
The authors present a novel design concept of a compact stator frame, as well as dynamic characteristics and vibration response of a stator frame required to realize such a concepts, on the basis of experiments by utilizing mock-up models and a theoretical investigation. The results show that adoption of this design concept can reduce the ratio of the stator frame outer diameter to the stator core from the conventional ratio of 1.6 and more to below 1.4. It can also increase machine capacity by 30% or more with the same size of stator frame
